We also had friends who worked at GameStop and they’d put smash in the GameCube demo kiosks and let us plug our controllers in, so we’d hang out there all day and challenge anyone who came in.

BLOODY ROAR 5 TEASER TV

We had a cool teacher who’d let us use the class TV after school in high school. For that game, we literally had a huge group of really high level players (SE Michigan hype) who were spoiling to fight all the time, even at school or at work.

BLOODY ROAR 5 TEASER PRO

I was a scrub until melee came out in 2003 or whatever, when I became a pro player. There were also smaller sites and forums where you could find combo lists to print out and practice. This eventually evolved into downloading combo lists off of cheatcc or gamefaqs and printing them out at school.

I was born in 87 for what it’s worth, so we’re talking mortal kombat and street fighter.

BLOODY ROAR 5 TEASER MANUALS

The game manuals used to have lists of special moves, and we’d mess around and see how we could make them land. The more I do this, the less I have to think about them when these situations arise later. That is now my win condition for the game. Let's say I get into a match in DBFZ, and I want to work on reversing pressure: my goal might be "reflect 10 hits and start a blockstring/reset neutral after" or "successfully 5L out of block 5 times". I have a list of a few nebulous ones that I'm working on right now (anti-airs, neutral, reversing pressure, etc.) Whenever I get into a game, I pick one of those then set a realistic, mathematically achievable goal for it. Making realistic goals has helped a lot, too. Half a year ago I couldn't block to save my life - now, I can wait out assists and even handle a good few mix-ups. I haven't been playing for long, and I only really seriously started playing pretty recently, but watching other people play my characters and just getting my ass handed to me left and right has helped more than anything. I digress but thats the main way I learned fighting games. The game never got any real competitive scene so I don't know how useful fainting would have been but I imagine it would make for some really cool baits. Also another cool universal mechanic was you could faint every special move. The strings were like tekken style, unique for every character.

BLOODY ROAR 5 TEASER HOW TO

Every character would have fireball and tatsu motion for every button(3 button game) and other universal motions, so learning a new character was a matter of learning what the moves did, not how to do it. The other thing was that bloody roar uses mostly universal motions.

I think everyone who wants to get into fighters should play a game that gives you that much freedom. I still have the muscle memory for a lot of combos I used to do. This mode gave you enough freedom while still being balanced. I would spend hours just trying to do cool combos and juggle opponents for as long as possible. This blew my mind as it opened up a world of Combo possibilities. I barely knew any english, let alone know what cancel was, but just by playing I found out that with any cancel point, I could cancel special moves into other special moves. Custom mode was basically a mode where you could change different setting. Tinkering with the game, I accidentally came across the 'any cancel point' option in custom mode. I had learned basic motion moves from Street Fighter and that helped me with BR2.īR2's special moves are almost universal, so it was easy to learn. I really liked them all but BR2 became my favorite. I had games like SF alpha 3,SF ex, Tekken 3 and Bloody roar 2. There were no tutorials or anything and no one to teach me and usually I would play alone, as my friends didnt like fighting games as much as I did. I got a modded ps1 and i had a few fighting games. The only console that was wide-spread was bootleg nes and from there we kinda went directly to ps1. I was born in 93 in a poor country and in a small town at that.
